LOOKING WITH EVOLUTIONARY EYES

The pressure is building. I watched this the other day and felt a hopeful sense of ‘maybe now…’ come over me (the clip is not long but highly revealing). It shows graphically the perceptions about wealth distribution in the US, what people ideally want, and the reality. What it shows me is the evolution of our species has swung more than a little off balance. And whenever humans go off balance there is usually hell to pay to set things right again.

Money and ‘ownership of stuff’ has never particularly motivated me other than from a ‘seeking independence’ point of view. I don’t find comfort in feeling reliant on others so have always wanted to make my own way. At the same time I find comfort in knowing I have people in my life I can absolutely rely on if I need them. I know I am that person for others and like that feeling too - it is one of the joys of life for me. And so I have come to understand interdependence.

With freedom comes responsibility. Without risk there can be no trust, and without trust our world becomes a very scary place indeed.

“The world is getting better and better and worse and worse, faster and faster, and we’re all in it together.” (Paul Ray).

ARE WE MAD?
The past thirty years especially have been phenomenal with regards to the speed with which resources have been and continue to be gobbled up and stock-piled by a tiny few. The enslaving of entire generations of the commons to indebtedness, the levels of violence and corruption, environmental degradation, poverty and crime, economic crises…not to mention the raft of natural disasters we have been privy to ‘live on camera’ all over the world are all day to day issues now.

Nature shows us over and over that crises drive transformation. The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein says it all really. We have implemented ideas that have created vast inequalities. Humans in authority have manufactured crises in order to redistribute wealth all over the world. We have democracies that have become corporate controlled and accountabilities are all but non-existent for those with the power to change the laws of the land. Too much deregulation creates chaos and anarchy, and over regulation chokes growth. Both are unsustainable in their extremes yet we struggle to find a balance of structure and flow.

History shows that when the King gets too big for his boots and stops caring for his wider kingdom or worse abuses his people, he tends to have his head removed – to me a symbol of the disconnect between ego and the heart residing in the body. When we go too far, our environment clips our wings and shows us our place. The frog in the pot is beginning to realise it is being boiled alive…

As long as we are unaware of being manipulated we will continue on, blissfully opiated by the glittery attraction of the material world and the drive to consume. How many more Tsunamis and earthquakes and super-storms will we need in order to get that all that is transitory, and all security based on the material possession is illusion.

The atrocities we humans are capable of seem to get worse every day. The outrage about corruption, the outrage about the way women are treated still, the outrage about human trafficking, child abuse, poverty, air quality, food and water shortages…the list goes on. Puff and bluster and outrage is just hot air unless it actually influences the way we see ourselves and our relationship with the environment that sustains us. The way we think precedes the way we act.

The human future is not something we are heading towards just now…the future is hurtling towards us and it is looking more and more like a nightmare.

The best way to escape a nightmare is to WAKE UP!

Conscious evolution IS a wake up response. We can influence and impact our future but first we must acknowledge and ride our way out of our dis-ease.
Awareness is the first step to freedom. Choosing an evolutionary view offers a very positive potential for us all – a view where we awaken fully to our responsibilities and take joy in creating a better world and a more conscious and compassionate and tolerant human species. We have shown ourselves the dangers of ego run amok in every area of human life. What could we be if we played to our most positive potentials I wonder? Could we be better than we are now? I choose to believe we haven’t seen the best of ourselves yet…

And that’s it, from my view
